San Clemente Pier Conservancy is a non-profit organization dedicated to working in partnership with the city and community stakeholders to fill the gaps between city funds and the Pier’s needs in order to restore the Pier to the best version of its historic self for future generations. The Conservancy is dedicated to help preserve San Clemente Pier, the heart of the city since 1928.

The City of San Clemente has a long history of maintaining and protecting the pier—which is a big job for a small city. Until 2012, the Pier was a beneficiary of California Redevelopment funds. Now unaided by the state, the City of San Clemente spends an average of $525,000 annually to maintain the Pier. More than 2 million people visit the Pier each year. As a result, there is a large gap between the budget and what it takes to provide the care this iconic destination deserves. The city keeps the Pier safe. The Conservancy focuses on the Pier’s historic character and experience.

Projects often include environmental improvements from reducing waste to protecting wildlife. The Pier is a symbol of coastal life and a place to gather, reflect, celebrate.

We are creating a lasting legacy that will become part of the Pier’s story for decades. Since 2016, we have worked to keep this shared space vibrant and welcoming for everyone. Our long term goal is to raise sufficient funds for an endowment to ensure preservation of the Pier for generations to come. Imagine fishing at sunrise, watching for dolphins, a wedding proposal, a junior lifeguard Pier jump, or just that sense of discovery strolling the Pier for the first time. All of this is why the Conservancy was created.
